Where I live...

As can be seen from my profile, I live in a small town called Lugo. Lugo, is according to 50% of the population a small town in Spain. According to the other 50% it's to be found in a mythical country called Galiza. Now Galiza (or Galicia) is in the NW of the Iberian Peninsula (stuck on top of Portugal). The principal industries are farming, fishing and growing large, important beards. Wearing corduroy trousers is NOT absolutely mandatory (apart from certain areas).

Now, Lugo's main claim to fame, is that it has the only COMPLETE City Wall in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. This was built by the Romans, added to thru the centuries and is now officially recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and by teenagers as a GREAT place to drink on balmy summer nights... Lugo is a highly-attractive stopping-off point for large groups of Bus Tours. Some of whom are rumored to stay for more than the mandatory 4.5 minutes. These groups of Tourists are instantly recognizable as they carry large carrier bags of food which keep them alive for up to four days at a time.

The most attractive aspect of Lugo is undoubtedly the many bars, which, due to the depression which sets in in dark winter nights, are little havens. Here in Lugo a Tapa is provided free with your drink. Now this is NOT the great deal you might imagine. If you decide to spend a night of carousing in the Center of the town you pay considerably more for drinks than anywhere else. The Tapas are also somewhat less generous than other areas. If you enjoy drinking thimblefuls of beer fine. If you have a mighty thirst to quench - better look for an alternative... If your idea of fun is watching a collection of obnoxious doctors, lawyers and iffy-builders get drunk while their bratty offspring push you out of the way - then this is the place for you! The more normal areas are to be found in the other areas of the town where the beer is served in reasonable quantities and the Tapas follow at a bewildering speed.

Now Lugo is more about late-nite visits to the local hospital for a refreshing stomach pump. We have a wide range of Cultural events thru the year. Most photogenic is undoubtedly Lucus Arde. In this, as a celebration of Lugo's proud Roman Heritage, the good citizens are invited to dress up as Romans and follow thru with a late nite visit to the hospital for a chat with the overworked Casualty Staff... Many events take place although the highlight is undoubtedly the fine figure of the Mayor opening the proceedings dressed as Nero.

Day 1 - my first Blog...

I'm no stranger to the 'Net, having published many articles on the site I work on:

So, let's get started. Perhaps an introduction is in order? I build model tanks. No, not kidding I REALLY build model tanks. I also teach English (but since that's as boring as hell, this is the first and last time i'll mention it).

What you see above is a tank. Well, it's a practice tank. Normally, tanks have tracks and armor and tubes which go bang. This is a tank which has legs and some very surprised-looking squaddies. So, if you don't know the secret handshakes and you're not in the WWoT, take this as your first introduction. People who build model tanks are, generally speaking, pretty odd. Spending much of your time and a large part of one's disposable income on model tanks does tend to make one seem strange in our otherwise completely sane society. Some do wear parkas - I would if I had a Lambretta. Some also live in places where a parka is a pretty sensible idea. In fact, PWBT, live all over the place - as is our constitutional right.

The WWoT. The Wonderful World of Tanks owes much of its success to a well-known poet and writer by the name of Rudyard Kipling. Kipling, allegedly, after being taken to see the first tanks during WW1 suggested that they be preserved for future generations. Some of the more 'contemporary' figures who like tanks include Clint Eastwood and Donald Sutherland. Supposedly, during the filming of Kelly's Heroes they argued over the technical accuracy of the vehicles in the movie that filming was delayed several times. Photos allegedly exist of Sarah Jessica Parker building model tanks during the filming of Sex and the City.

Tanks are a theme i'll return to several times in future Blogs as are some of the VERY Bad people who also inhabit the WWoT. The first of these is an Anime character called Blogger Hiroshi. Now, Noodle-Boy or The Incredible Blogging Man says nasty things about me, but particularly my friend Terry and also says rude things about the Chinese. The other nasty is a Shaven-Headed Loon who was supposedly killed-off in the 7th Harry Potter book but still inhabits one of the nastier hells on the WWW. Both of these characters will make occasional guest appearances in future Blogs.

Finally, today's villain award goes to Real Madrid's defender Pepe for the most violent attack in the history of Spanish football....
